McKay is working on a piece of tech that can translate what whales are saying? That's a bit ridiculous isn't it? It seems a bit cliched for them to translate what animals are saying, I think it is obvious they are going to be speaking Ancient.

Well, this is the episode that "echoed" everywhere... The one that everybody was saying it is supposed to show us what everybody in Atlantis is doing with their free time, when they're not off-world... They can't just sit around, playing a game of cards, can they?

maybe this is what came out of that 'day off' idea that martin gero had?

To be honest i don't know what to think about this one as the info given is extreamely unhelpful. Hopefully we'll hear more on this soon.

I do not think it is that far fetched. Dolphins, which are marine mammels like whales, are the only species other than humans to have sex for pleasure, and they appear to communicate. It is highly likely that on another world, the whales and not the dolphins are a little more advanced. Most people think that whales speak too, not just dolphins. Of course, no one knows....

So.....looks like by this stage in the season the Atlantis team are not under much of a threat...if McKay has time to talk to Whales....

Maybe they say....
"McKay...there is an underwater hanger with 5 Aurora/Orion ships in it and one big Mothership type thing....il take you..."

I think it would be funny to see McCay arguing with a whale and have that asgard and sheppard making fun of him in the background.

Just because whales have not yet risen to the intellectual plateau that allows them to carelessly destroy their environment, they need not be unintelligent.

Revan i like the way you think. just because a creature doesn't use technology dosen't mean that they aren't
intelligent in fact to me it shows that man is intellectually inferior because we need technology which destroys
our planet

I think he meant that the Nox have proven that an advanced society can have all the technology and protect their own environment at the same time... So, either technology can exist without harming it, or an intelligent life can also communicate through other means besides technology or by talking.

What a stupid thing to say. It is not our technology that is destroying the world, if it is even being destroied. It is humanity. Remember, guns dont kill people, people kill people. Cars dont destroy the environment, people do it. Clear cutting the rain forrests do far more harm than the internal combustion engine will ever do.

Impatience does all those things... overpopulation... technology without responsibility..... Yes, it is humanity that does this, but technology helps, it allows us to do the terrible things we do with greater ease

Usually it is the hemorrhaging from bullet penetration that kill people, though I have seen what a gun by itself can do

GoVols, I do not think you will ever be in a position to tell somebody else they said something stupid

In fact, I have a feeling your foot is going to be permanently embedded in your mouth...

SG1's first impression of the Nox was that they were technologically repressed because they were so in touch with nature. In the end they found out how wrong they were. The same could be true for these whales. I doubt that's where they are going, but the first Nox episode came to mind.

I take all this back... I was completely wrong... The episode that is destined to be the one about the day-off is called Sunday, and it won't be missed by action at all... See thread over here.

I have reason to believe that someone is finnally making his return, either that or its a flashback, but yes i think he may have survived that wraith hive ship. I think Lt Aiden Ford returns in Echoes.

Could you please share that reason?

I think that the burned man is Becket himself, he has some sort of out of body experience or a dream, that's why he sees other doctors operating on the man who then all of a sudden vanish.

Anyway, talking whales? I am not opposed to the idea but it will depend how they'll do it. I think they are bordering trouble.

I doubt it. There has been no word about the inclusion of Rainbow Sun Francks in season 3. If he was going to return, it would have been reported a while ago.

No but given the season 3 finale is due to be filmed in the next week or two, I doubt we will see him this season.

Right, well if you're all done with the philosophical debate about the evil that is man ... rolleyes.gif

Clearly whales speak no language we could ever understand, but this is a different galaxy to ours, so I suppose that's the writer's excuse for this remarkable phenomenon.

I also agree with Daf about the Ford thing. I doubt he's coming back this season.
