The Stargate Information Archive has a new section just for screensavers. With the help of a talented 3D artist (Mikael Linder) we are now offering our first download in the new section: The SGC Screensaver. This simple screensaver shows the SGC logo as it rotates on a black background.

Here's a small sample of how it looks:

The screensaver is available for Microsoft Windows (98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003) and Apple Macintosh (Mac OS 9 thru 10.4).

You can download the latest version on our new Screensavers Page. Hopefully it is the first of many new ones to come.

Thanks for the nice comments. They should really be directed at the artist, not to me.

Anyway, I made a new avatar based on the screensaver materials.. smile.gif

Is this a program or something that you could use as a screen saver?

There is a version now available for Macs with Intel processors:

SGC Screensaver 1.2b (Universal)

Actually, it is a "universal" version that should work on Intel or PowerPC Macs running OS X 10.4.4 or later. If you already have the previous version working on your PowerPC-based Mac, there is no reason to get this version.

There is no installer for this version yet. Download the file, un-stuff it, then drag the resulting file "SGC.saver" to your "~/Library/Screen Savers" folder (within your user folder.)

Thanks for bugguy's help with compiling the new version. Any Mac/Intel users out there, please let me know if this works on your computer.

IT STILL DOES NOT USE BOTHSCREENS

By default, on a multiple-monitor system, this screensaver will run on the main monitor only. Other monitors are blanked.

Under Mac OS X only, you can turn off the "Run on Main Screen only" setting, and the screensaver will play back on each monitor. What you get is one copy of the screensaver running simultaneously on each monitor. Please be aware that this can use an enormous amount of CPU power, system RAM and video RAM, which can cause poor performance on many systems, and is thus generally not recommended. It seems to work well on my dual G5 system, but chokes pretty fast on an older G4 system. I am unable to test on an Intel-based system, since I do not own one.

Under Mac OS X: To change the "Run on Main Screen Only" setting, select it on the "Desktop & Screen Saver" panel, click the "Options" button, select the "Options" tab, then click the checkbox to turn it off or on.

This feature is not available for Windows or Mac OS 9.

And if you have your monitor split through a router system so that it shows up on mulitple screens

was doing a Presentation off my laptop at school and I had a video file that I was showing. Well lets just say that after the video finnished it went to the screen saver and there was the spinning SGC logo on both the screen and my laptop screen...eh

If the computer is set up to mirror the display on multiple monitors, of course the screensaver will show up on both/all of them. What I was talking about was a multiple display system in spanning mode, where each display shows different contents. In this case, Windows only shows my screensaver on the primary display. Apparently, it is a limitation of Windows, or perhaps the program I used to create the screensaver. This is not a problem on Mac OS X. (Macs have supported multiple monitors since at least 1987, so they have a bit of a head start on this type of thing.)

I have constructed the flashing idle screensaver for OSX from the software posted at SG-1.co.uk site. I don't know if it is kosher to post it. I am only using for my own entertainment now. If someone tells me it is ok to post it, I would be happy to share it. Anyone? unsure.gif

I wouldnt recommend you post here if you don't have the original creators permission (you didn't say that it wasnt yours in the thread you started). Can you send a message to the person who created it on the dite you found the artwork?

Yes, contact the original artist and request permission. Considering that most people are not generating artwork of this nature for profit, it would be assumed that he/she would have no problem with you posting your own work here, especially since he/she is obviously a Stargate fan as well.
