Doesn't it seem a bit strange to have two devices basically saving that planet forever? I mean, if the atmosphere doesn't support life then move the people, no?!??! What if one device blows a fuse, do all the people die?

its not their fault this is the way their world have been built they sheltered in caves for most of their yoyuth and i think its great to have such a device which allows them to come out from the caves and not fry to a crisp.

I'm not disputing the hand they've been dealt, I was saying that if the world is so bad why rely on two devices, why not move the people (via the gate) to a safer world - it wouldn't be the first time.

Yes but the difference there is they had a decent, livable world to start with - just Carter comes along by-passing a few protocols and screws things up. Presumeraby they thought it would go back to the way it was.
In First Commandment the people live in an uninhabitable world, the best that can be offered is a couple of Goa'uld/Ancient/whatever devices that may or may not work forever. |

hey it wasnt carters fault she didnt say oh lets go through their sun or lets go to the planet.
in first commandment jonas abused the false god and sgc protocol thingy and made the ppl build but when he died they had that device working so why just leave the building unfinished they probaly thought lets finish it lets live decently not in some grubby caves. |

Good point about finishing the place. Another thought of mine though is what was the planet like BEFORE Jonas arrived? Was that device working? Or were they already living in caves?

well the way the episode made it look is that they didnt know how to work the devices and plus if they did not know then the suns radiation would be to much for them so they would have to stay in the caves to be sheltered from the heat.

Any ideas on why the devices were put there anyway? Obviously Goa'uld but why? They don't care about the natives.

Not sure what you're on about there, but I guess when you spam away you're bound to make less and less sense
I agree with Helen, sorta, I mean logic would tell us you'd need four of those things, but for some reason it did work successfully with two. I wonder why they were buried though? And by whom? |

not neccerserily, look at my point the number of devices would depend on the size of the city itself and to make a dome shape it is possible without 4 cause youve got 22 of those devices on opposite sides so what if one of those devices makes half of the dome and then it will conect with the other device and then the other device would make the other half to the dome but basically i think it comes down to the cise of the city itself.

Wouldn't the size of the city only affect the strength (power output)??? Why a bigger "city" would require more quantity I don't understand.

well the bigger the city the more devices youll need for the bigger dome and more strength but this wasnt so big compared to some places so it was strong enough with 2 cause the city was smaller.

well it is a possibility that one of the devices can hold only so much power and in due time that power would probaly run out so the less devices you use the less power you use.
cause think of it if u use for your going to be using more power cause youve got more devices sure it be stronger but the power would go quicker so if u had less devices the less power youll use and the longer it would probaly last. |

I only read that ONCE, blinked my eyes, and assumed you got it right, so I'll just move along - ha ha haaa.....
So what made Jonas flip out? Surely not the sun cause then the natives would be the same, no?? Mass grandeur, all gods and no one to god-den over |
