Hmm I never thought it boring before; maybe not the best episode around though. I must go watch it again, I haven't seen this one in a while. I always get Hammer and Chariot mixed up.

I think Jack was very funny in it. It is not what Jack was saying, but his looks that said it all. The Gou'lds took the names of the Egption. Jack did not like that, cause learning all that latin and clivics did not make sense to Jack.

Surely after going to so much trouble to set up the hammer in the first place they would have thought about ships in orbit too. Or back then perhaps the snakes only ever came via the gate and didn't have the tech to fly there?!?!?!? But my guess is there is something else hidden there to zap away mother ships. |

The way it works is:
Jaffa goes to Sumaria. Hammer kills Jaffa. Goa'uld boss stops sending Jaffa, at least for a few years. Since the hammer broke, the Jaffa survived and reported back, and the Goa'uld saw the chance to take an unprotected world. |

I was totally into this episode until Darth Vader's voice came out of the Unas...
The other problem I had was that when Teal'c was fighting with the Unas in the Hammer's energy field at the end...I mean, Teal'c seems to be in trouble, but when he gets out of it he doesn't really seem any worse for wear...that bothered me a bit for some reason... |

This early ep has a lot of character building going on. We see the friendship between Jack and Teal'c start to bloom on screen with Jack tackling Teal'c to get him out of the Hammer's ray. But the big one is Daniel. Jack forces Daniel make the decision to destroy the Hammer. They hadn't really dealt with Teal'c being the Jaffa to take Sha're to Apophis. It had been mentioned, but we'd never seen anything between Daniel and Teal'c. I think this ep showed Daniel's full acceptance of Teal'c and what he used to be.

I remember when they first showed the first host to the Goa'uld, the Unas. What an ugly creature. That's something I'd never let a child see on TV. The Asgards a crafty little guys. Coming up with a hammer the saves people and allows them to stay free. There's really something.

From what I understand, that critter, the Unas (name of species) is from the Gou'ulds native planet. They developed together. I don't know if they were the Gou'ulds actual first hosts, but they were certainly the first sentient ones. |

Unas the first one is supposed to be the first goa'uld that took a host. Why is he still alive?
spoiler highlight to read in season 7 lord yu is dying because of old age. may be Goa'uld in an unas can live longer than one in a human host. |

Teal'c needs to learn some control while firing the 9mm. He kept firing and firing at the Unas even though he was already out of sight. Teal'c has an itchy trigger finger; never would've guessed it.

Unas is the name of the species, not the individual. |

We find that out in "Demons".
Anyway, I liked this ep. It was good, but not the best. This post has been edited by Lithrasir: Jul 20th 2003, 11:33 AM |

This episode was great. Thor is awesome! I can understand some of your disappointment that we never see the Asgard in this episode, but it really sets the stage nicely for Thor's Chariot in Season 2.

i really thought this episode was average i mean don't get me wrong we got introduced slightly to the asgaurd and i likedd the whole "it's only a recording" thing from sam and then thor answers back and then the look on her face.
