That Senator Kinsey needs an a**kicking by Jack and Teal'c. Maybe shoot him with a Zat too. That guy is not only a jerk, evil, and stupid, but he works with the NID. That guy needs to be "removed". Its too risky to let him run for president. If he gets in, the SGC is as gone. If he doesn't shut it down, you know that he will give the NID authority to take over the SGC. SG-1 and Maj. Gen. Hammond will definately get the boot. He needs to die. Maybe we can send him to the Aschen, since he seems to love them so much smile.gif

I think that Senator is the most stupid person on earth. Cancel the Stargate programme!!! Crazy. He seems to forget that is the only way for Earth to defend itself.

Unfortunately it's an attitude all too common among politicians of any country.

Be that as it may, but can you at least see his opinion? That we would have been better off to leave it alone? Hey, I agree with you, but he does have a different opinion, doesn't make him wrong tongue.gif

Awwh looks like we lost Bragi, pity, I saw a good argument coming up there. Actually, what's Kinsey's MAIN argument to show down the gate anyway?

Thor should take him to a planet far away with a dead stargate. Then Kinsey could be happy

But wouldn't there be other politicians to replace him with similar ideals? Far better to change people's perspectives on the gate and its importance to humanity, ALL humanity Joans Quin. biggrin.gif

Oh you must have a different breed of politicians than we have then? tongue.gif

But, really, Kinsey is only Kinsey because that is his job - in charge of appropriations or whatever it was. It's his duty to question the spenditure of doubtful things. I don't agree with him obviously, but some of his points are worthwhile and valid I feel.

Really, i agree with kinsey. If we hadn't opened the Stargate the Goa'uld would'nt know about us (Cus for some reason the Goa'uld had forgot about Earth and where it was, lame genetic memory ain't whats its cracked up to be.)
England should have the Stargate programme, not America

Actually, the arrival of Apophis on earth had NOTHING to do with Ra being killed on Abydos. He was doing the same thing the SGC does - randomly dial gates to see what's on the other side. He was trying to find people to become Goa'uld hosts.

What we did wrong was that we didn't bury the gate after we decided to shut down the program - because we thought, after much experimentation, that the only address that worked was Abydos. So we just left the gate there, allowing Apophis to come through it.

And as for the Goa'uld forgetting about earth, I don't think that is the case. After they were forced to leave earth we buried our gate. So they couldn't try and come back through it. For all we know they tried dialling earth every 10, 20, 50 or 100 years from when the gate was buried until Apophis eventually did come through it. They obviously knew the address becasue they managed to dial it OK.

And if you ask why didn't they come back in ships? Well they had already transplanted thousands, if not millions, or people from Earth, and had them to rule over. Earth had no naquadah, so there was no interest from that perspective either. There are plenty of other planets that SG-1 runs into that have been abandoned by the Goa'uld that they don't appear to have returned to. Why shouldn't earth be one of those?

Okay, but here's a point. If Earth rebelled against the Goa'uld, why didn't they just blow the planet up? Cuz we'd be a threat to them.

So the question is: Why didn't anyone stop the burying of the gate?

well, maybe the goa'uld knew the planet was lost, so they just let us do our thing, and then they left. also, maybe they didn't have enough jaffa to put down our rebellion.
