| Moderator: Hi everyone, thanks for joining us tonight.
I'm Patrizia DiLucchio for SCIFI.com, and tonight's guest is actor
CHRISTOPHER JUDGE who plays Teal'c on SCIFI's popular Friday night
series STARGATE SG-1.
( something missing here )
Moderator: om, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, MacGyver
and Sirens. His feature-film credits include Bird on a Wire, Cadence,
House Party II, Out of Line and Snow Dogs (he played Cuba Gooding Jr.'s
adoptive father.)
Moderator: Ready for the first question, Chris?
CJudge: Yes
Moderator: *Vern* A huge volume of fans have turned up
for this chat, some are up as late as 4am. Are you pleased to have such
a dedicated following?
CJudge: I think it's asolutley fantastic. I'm glad I'm
finally able to do one of these chats.
CJudge: Hopefully this chat will be worth people
loosing sleep over.
Moderator: *ladycalypso5000* Hi Christopher! You were
so funny on the lowdown, yet so serious as Teal'c. How do you manage to
keep that straight face all the time? Love, Arlene & Sara in FL
CJudge: In the beginning it was quite difficult to keep
going. I didn'td know the character that well. I tried to stay as
character for the majority of the time and it was hard to keep a
straight face.
CJudge: Now I know the character so well that I can go
out of character and give myself a moment to laugh becuase I can get
back into character so quickly.
Moderator: *Seanchaidh* Hi Christopher, I want to start
off by saying how incredible "Changeling" turned out to be!
One of the definite highlights of Season 6. Your character is the most
visible "other" on the team, helping us to understand our own
humanity through his alien eyes. Do you believe the loss of Junior will
make Teal'c lose this unique viewpoint, since the symbiote is in essence
what makes Teal'c truly "alien"?
CJudge: Thank you for your kind words.
CJudge: I appreciate it. I'd like to thank all the fans
for their generous outpouring of affection.
CJudge: The thing about Teal'c waht made him an alien
is that yes, he had a symbiot
CJudge: but his origin was from earth.
CJudge: His body was modified and he was taken to
another planet.
CJudge: I think he's getting closer and closer to being
human like.
CJudge: I din't know if he'll ever be a normal human,
but somewhere down the line, we'll see him become more human because of
his loss of the sybiote.
CJudge: We are doing an episode that answers that
specific question.
Moderator: Two kinda related questions...
Moderator: everythingsroses* Chris your so talented and
really funny, Tell us what prompted you to try out for the morning show
host contest ?? And how you got the part of Teal'c??
Moderator: Barbarella: *spectremac* MAC in Atlanta GA.
Hi Christopher, you are my favorite character by far. Great Work! I was
wondering how you got a role on SG1? I noticed you worked with RDA on
MacGyver.
CJudge: The morning show I got my last year at
university
CJudge: The Fox network was a new network and they were
looking for programming.
CJudge: They created a talk show/video show sort of
like MTV
CJudge: They held a contest and I won. That's how I got
started in show buisiness.
CJudge: How I got the role of Teal'c,-- I was over at a
friends house.
CJudge: I saw his roomate practicing an audition
CJudge: I listened to it for a minute and thought
"Wow, what a good part."
CJudge: When he went to shower, I looked over his notes
and called my agent and insisted that he get me an audition for this
part, or he would not have me as a client.
CJudge: My agent called me back and told me my audition
was the next day. That's how I got the part.
Moderator: *bbfan-01* Most younger actors 'learn' from
their older counterparts... What exactly have you 'learned' from RDA...
good or bad?
CJudge: I think everytihng that I've learned from Rick
is good.
CJudge: The main thing that I've learned is that we are
not saving lives, we're entertaining people.
CJudge: Never get too full of yourself and most of all
have fun every day.
Moderator: Two related questions...
Moderator: *morjana* How would you like to see your
character change?
Moderator: *doubleedge* What would you like to see your
character do on on episode that he has not done yet?
CJudge: The writer's have been great about changing
Teal'c gradually.
CJudge: Every year at the beginning of the year we sit
down and discuss where Teal'c should be going. It's very collaborative.
CJudge: The relationships were allowed to happen very
naturally.
CJudge: Something that he hadn't done, I always joke
about Teal'c having more love scenes.
CJudge: I wrote an ep this year and wrote in a love
interest.
CJudge: My new love interest is played by the oh so
lovely Ms. Jolene Blalok.
CJudge: She'll be appearing a few times this season.
Moderator: Some writing questions...
Moderator: *reed* You said on The Lowdown that you were
going to be writing another episode this season. Can you give us some
insight into that episode? (p.s. the thing about the having your hat on
means you're in your writing mood was quite funny :])
Moderator: *drdjlover* 'Greetings Christopher!! Now
that you've gotten the writing bug, will we be seeing you write for
anything else in the near future? Or possibly onto directing?'
CJudge: I think my last answer took care of part of
that question.
CJudge: The episode that I wrote is called
"Birthright" and I've let the cat out of the bag as to who the
leader of these women is.
CJudge: And yes, I enjoy writing. I've talked to Kevin
Sorbo about writing an ep of Andromeda.
CJudge: I'd also like to write a feature and I'd truly
just like to keep writing. I really do enjoy it.
CJudge: As for directing-- Not a Stargate--
CJudge: I would hate to direct Rick or Michael. It
would be a problem. Amanda would be joy.
Moderator: *Meem* Greetings Mr. Judge! When you were
one of those serpent guard suits, how do you see where you're going? It
seems to me that the serpent's eyes are above one's line of vision and
even if they weren't, wouldn't their thickness obscure your vision?
CJudge: I haven't actually worn the helmet in quite
some time.
CJudge: My least favorite costume is the armour. It
looks good, but it's hot, it's heavy and to use the batthroom is a 5
minute process.
CJudge: You are right. You can't really see when you
use the helmet. You can't see more than 2 feet in front of you.
CJudge: The faceplace from the pilot was hydrolicaly
controlled.
CJudge: It was build without takiong the measurements
of my head.
CJudge: Once it actually caught my nose. Every time I
had to use it I flinched.
CJudge: I really do hate the armour though. It's very
heavy.
Moderator: *MissThing* Hi from Portland, OR! Chris, if
Teal'c were stranded for the rest of your/his life on a deserted island
with another memeber of SG-1, who would it be and why....any why not the
other guys
CJudge: Wow. tough question
CJudge: If he were stranded, it would ahve to be
Amanda, then we could repopulate the island
CJudge: It couldn't be Michael because there would be
no alcohol or strip clubs.
CJudge: It could'nt be Rick because he'd tell me
stories until I'd want to kill myself.
CJudge: Rick would be ok on an island by himself
though. He could keep himself amused for the entire time.
Moderator: *AnnaT* Hello from Germany, Chris. Firstly,
I want to say that I think you are really gorgeous, but what do you do
to stay so fit? Furthermore, what do you do in your free time?
CJudge: Thank you very much.
CJudge: My workout routine is gruelling to say the
least.
CJudge: I get up at 4 a.m. pretty much every morning.
CJudge: I ;do an hour of cardio and 1/2 an hour of free
weights.
CJudge: In my spare time I hang out with my kids. My
kids and I have week-end long play stationg tournaments.
CJudge: My daugter and I-- we shop.
Moderator: Couple of really HAIRY questions here...
Moderator: *GoauldSlayers* You mentioned hair....as in
hair on your head, will this really happen to Teal'c???
Moderator: *Meem* Greetings Mr. Judge! From the
Lowdown, I got an inkling that you don't really like being bald, yet you
have to shave your head for the sake of Teal'c. How does this affect
your life outside the set and the show?
CJudge: You're exactly right.
CJudge: I don't' like being bald.
CJudge: It doesn't effect me when I'm off set. I wear
hats.
CJudge: But I stop cutting it the last day that we
film.
Moderator: *puddykat* msg re-send # 4356 :D Hey Chris,
I met you at Sg-5 in Blackpool, I was the girl who gave you the
chocolate bear and you gave me a kiss on the cheek :D donÍt know if you
remember, you looked a bit tipsy. Anyway my question is How is your
photography business going?, recently I saw photos that you had taken of
AT and Alexis Cruz they were really good!. Oh and any plans to come back
to England soon? WeÍd love to have ya!
CJudge: Yes I do remember you! How are you my dear!
CJudge: I've been writing more and more. I'm writing a
feature. I wanted to keep my girlfriend, so I had to put somethning on
the back burner and it was the photography.
CJudge: Hopefully when this season is done and I've
finished my feature, I can get back to it.
Moderator: *macgyver247* Hi from NJ. Chris I was just
wondering who in real life is most like their character?
CJudge: HOpefully I'll be in England in January. On
July 11-13 I'll be at Shore Leave 25--
CJudge: All of you folks on line in the Eastern part of
the county, please stop by.
CJudge: www.shore-leave.com
CJudge: That's a hard one.
CJudge: I would say probably Amanda.
CJudge: She's smart and whitty and she's smart.
CJudge: :)
Moderator: *tealcluvr* Chris, is it hard to talk like a
Goa'uld? Is it a hard language to speak? How do they make the voices of
the symbiotes sound so deep? Thank you. Laura Whitney 13, Texas
CJudge: There
CJudge: is this process called flanging
CJudge: The actor speaks the dialog in their natural
voice-- which is run through a synthesizer which gives it that deep
richness that all the Goa';uld speech.
CJudge: The tempo and the richness is kind of like
iambic pentameter. A lot of our guests have problems with the rythm of
it.
Moderator: 'Nother two-fer:
Moderator: *BatT* hey chris! Thanks for taking the time
to brace the computer world and talk to us. My question is who's idea
was it to put that hairy thing on your chin in season 4? And what was it
supposed to be? Oh and how does it feel having a mercedes emblem (in the
words of peter deluise) stuck to your head everyday? Do you feel a
bit...silly? :D Thanks Chris, BatT.
Moderator: *Major-sg1uk* On average, how many times a
day does Jan Newman have to reattach your head symbol? And does it ever
get annoying? Keep up the great acting and writing! All the best from
Sussex, England
CJudge: The first copule of seasone--
CJudge: The lovely Jan can never be annoying!
CJudge: WE used an adhesive that would be fine if
conditions were fine.
CJudge: If I would sweat it would move.
CJudge: Around the 3rd or 4th season they came out with
Beta-bond-- a medical adhesive.
CJudge: Because Hollywood would pay more for it, it
would go their first instead of to hospitals.
CJudge: I think that has changed though.
Moderator: *laurasg1* Hi Chris! Greetings from
Barcelona!! You do a great job. What would you like to do after
Stargate: write, theater...? See you in France! ;)
CJudge: Thank you. Yes, I'll see you in France in NOv.
CJudge: If SG-1 ever ends, I'd like to do somw writing.
CJudge: I'
CJudge: I'd be willing to let acting take a back seat.
I'd take a role if a friend had written a role for me, but I definately
want to get into the writnig end of the business.
Moderator: *PretendToDream* Would you like to see your
character as an action figure?
CJudge: I've heard that they are being manufactured.
I'm not sure if that's a rumor. I'd love to see Teal'c as an action
figure.
CJudge: But I know what they'll do. They;'ll use any
old Shaquille O'Neal figure and put a tattoo on it :).
Moderator: *HWFamine* Hi Chris! Hope you got a donut on
Monday....my questions is: You commented on starting up a production
company 'way back at GateCon 2000. Any progress on that? Any projects we
should keep an eye out for? Thanks!
CJudge: Yes and thank you for the Krispy Kreme donuts.
People went wild.
CJudge: I did have a production co. in LA and I'm
starting one off here in VAncouver.
CJudge: We are trying to secure the rights to an
autobiography.
CJudge: By the way, I had the Boston Cremes.
Moderator: *ES* When AT and RDA were chatting they were
in the middle of filming. Are you on the set right now. What episode are
you filming at this point. My kids and I never miss Stargate, we are new
fans and really love it. I appreciate the strong, moral role models on
the show. Stargate is one of the more redeaming things on television and
I appreciate you all as a fan and a mom!
CJudge: Wow, thank you for your wonderful comments.
They are greatly appreciated.
CJudge: Yes, I am on set.
CJudge: We are doing an ep. called FAllout. It features
a character who was previously on the show and he's come back.
CJudge: I love it when famillies watch the show. AS a
parent I also find it hard to watch shows with my kids.
CJudge: For me being a Dad, that's one of the best
compliments I can get.
Moderator: Nother two-fer
Moderator: *TessaMac* Hi Chris! Greetings from Holland!
What's your favorite book that you would want to see adapted for the big
screen (or maybe adapt yourself?) Would you want to play in it? Which
role?
Moderator: *Ellory1* Thanks for chatting with us. What
are some of your favorite authors? Read any Science Fiction?
CJudge: One of the books that stayed with me even till
now is "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
CJudge: They shot it here in Vancouver, but I was not
available to be in it.
CJudge: It would have been great for me and to leave
something for my kids.
CJudge: I just read Zachariah Stython and my agent has
the rights to his book. I have a passing familliarity of the subject
matter.
CJudge: From what I've been told, it's very exciting.
Moderator: *gatecrasher* Chris from PA,getting back to
the goua'ulds,I know they take both male & female hosts but do they
have both male and females sexes?
Moderator: Did you see that question, Chris? Want me
to repeat it?
CJudge: I belive the symbiote themselve are asexual. I
belive they can go to any gender because they are genderless.
CJudge: I beleive Jolonar was origiannally in a female,
then a male, and then into Carter.
Moderator: *SquarePeg* What kind of music do you listen
to?
CJudge: I really like a variety
CJudge: In the morning, in the makeup trailer, it's
generally classical.
CJudge: Unless MS's call time is before mine
CJudge: Then we'll hear Eminem or what ever rock/rap
he's listening to.
CJudge: I like classical in the morning, it sets the
tone for the day.
Moderator: Who's yr favorite composer?
CJudge: I like everything. I listen to pop, classical,
old rock and some rap.
CJudge: Having seen Amedeus, . . . I think the one I'm
most familiar with is Beethoven. My fav. peice ever is Ravel's Bolero by
the Chicago Philharmonic--
CJudge: My girlfriend knows that if I put on Ravel's
Bolero we wont be leaving the house that eve. :)
Moderator: *klistohuskerfan* I watch you guys every
night from 12am to 1 am cst on scifi channel here in cedar rapids, iowa.
Stargate SG-1 is my favorite tv show!! I was in a major freak car
accident that left me as a parapeligic a year ago on the 18th, and one
thing that kept me sane when i was in the hospital for 7 months was
watching the show!. Thank you so much. Do you guys in the cast have as
much fun doing the show as it seems? And is Michael Shanks REALLY you
running buddy?? =0) Ken,31
CJudge: First of all, it's great to hear from you. I
wish you all the best in the world just to get through that. Your
courage and strength is really inspiring.
CJudge: Yes, Shanks and I are best friends. We've seen
each other through failed relationships, our kids love each other, our
girlfriends get along.
CJudge: The odd thing is that we disagree on
everything, but we respect and listen to each other's opinions
CJudge: I love him to death.
Moderator: Final group of questions for the night --
unles we can coax you into overtime!
Moderator: Lotta people wanting to break into the
biz...
Moderator: *Shadow* Do you have any advice for someone
wanting to get started in acting or writing, particularly how can
someone find an honest representitive, and what kind of representation
would we need?
Moderator: Barbarella: *Bastet8* You said you got your
start on a morning show, but do you have any advice for beginning
actors?
Moderator: *StargateDrJanet* Hello Chris! Love your
work. Teal'c's lines are often quoted in our house, especially by my
younger siblings. :-) Do you have any advice for an aspiring
screenwriter/actress? Thanks for your time! God Bless, Hannah.
CJudge: Thanks for your comments.
CJudge: The advice that I can give anyone wanting to be
in the biz-- do all the work
CJudge: Learn your craft.
CJudge: There are no shortcuts. If you stay with it,
you will get an opportunity.
CJudge: Whether you make the most of an opportunity
depends on if you are prepared. Learn your craft, every aspect of it.
Eat it, drinnk it sleep it, then when you are the most prepared, you can
make the most of it.
CJudge: I can stay around a bitl longer-- at least
until they call me to the set.
Moderator: That's cool!
Moderator: *RoadDoggJR* Howdy from West Virginia! I
have heard rumor that another Stargate movie was being made, I was
wondering if this was true, and if it is are they gonna use the current
show cast? Thanks! *Jason*
CJudge: I know there was an SG-1 movie in the works. I
don't know if it's going to happen right after this season.
CJudge: There has been talk that this may not be our
last season.
CJudge: I know there has been talk of the movie, but I
don't know when it would go into production.
CJudge: The movie would have the same SG-1 cast.
Moderator: *samandjackluvr* Hey Chris, when you were
growing up, who was your inspiration?
CJudge: My numbver 1 inspiration was my Mother.
CJudge: She worked 2 jobs and had breakfast and dinner
prepared.
CJudge: I essentially called my mother the lion. She's
fierce and she's proud. I'd like to think some of that rubbed off on
me.
CJudge: IN the film industry, Sidney Poitier, in a
broader sense, Muhammed Ali
CJudge: He put his beliefs above any monetary value.
That's why his celebrity has never waned.
CJudge: MOvies, tv. sports, come and go, but what you
stand for is what people remember.
CJudge: Mandela, Martin Luther King, John Kennedy are
people who really stood for something and were willing to die for it.
You don't see a whole lot of that any more.
Moderator: *Anna* Hi Chriss,From Venezuela,What do you
do to not to laugh of jack's jokes?
CJudge: I don't know how much film we have of bloopers,
how many thousands of feet that we have.
CJudge: You could do a 3 hour special of our bloopers.
CJudge: IN the beginning, everyone tried not to laugh.
CJudge: I'd really love to see that, all the years of
bloopers we have. That's what's underneath our chemistry, it's that we
all laugh at and with each other.
Moderator: *Fi* Hi Chris, Fiona (Fi) from Australia -
What does your family think of your playing an ailen ??
CJudge: My family always thougth I was a bit off
anyway.
CJudge: To my Mom, I'm still just her son. To my Mom
it's "Oh baby, it's good that you have a job." IT's "at
least he's working."
Moderator: How are your typing fingers holding out,
Chris? We have tons o'questions, but I want to make sure we're not
tiring you out!
CJudge: the fingers are fine.
Moderator: *prion* Hi Chris! Who has been your favorite
guest star to work with so far on Stargate, and why? Thanks!
CJudge: We have a few that are part of the family
CJudge: Jay Acavone, Alexis Cruz, Tony Amidollo and
Carmen Argenziono and JR Bourne.
CJudge: We have great guest stars. We have some that
come back and come back and come back.
CJudge: Almost all of our guest stars give great
performances, but the ones that have some of our same sensibilities that
we have that they get asked back.
CJudge: That's the thing with Jolene Blalok, she was so
willing to laugh at us and with us.
CJudge: Michael Greenberg asked if she would be willing
to come back and she said yes right on the spot.
Moderator: *Meem* Dear Mr. Judge, I was wondering why
Teal'c dreamed being a firefighter in "Changeling". There are
other occupations where one risks there own life to save others. Was it
picked randomly or was there a special reason behind it? Does Teal'c
like the t.v. show Third Watch which is related to paramedics and
consequently to firefighters? Love from a Bangladeshi. :)
CJudge: No, truly there are numrous proffessions that
risk their lives
CJudge: One of the reasons I chose firefighter is that
all little boys want to ride in firetrucks
CJudge: Not only did we get to slide down the pole, but
we got to ride in the trucks at top speed.
CJudge: We had a mishap with one of the cars catching
fire, we got to watch them in action.
CJudge: All of the actors were running away from the
fire and they firefighters were running toward it. It was amazing.
CJudge: Would Teal'c like "Third WAtch"-- I'm
not sure Cheyenne mountain has cable :)
Moderator: *BatT* Hi Chris, i thought i'd take the
opportunity to ask an unrelated question, what was it like working with
Will Smith and the the rest of the cast and crew on The Fresh Prince of
Bel Air? And would you work with Will in the future? Thanks Chris, BatT.
CJudge: Will is fantastic.
CJudge: What you see in interviews is how he really is.
He is really a nice guy. I'd jump at the chance to work with him again.
Moderator: *SquarePeg* Whose initial idea was it for
Teal'c to lose the symbiote?
CJudge: It was Peter DeLouise who came up with that.
CJudge: I lost it in Changeling, it had a complety
diffrent ending than what occured.
CJudge: It was my idea, was difrent.
CJudge: I was unsure about the ep. after changing, but
Peter DeLouise wrote an ep called Orpeheus that deals with Teal'c
metamorphosis.
CJudge: We will see more with how he's changed becuse
of that loss.
Moderator: '*Vern* If you had to name 2 things about
SG-1 that make it stand out from other sci-fi, what would they be?
CJudge: It's sens of humor and it's fantastic visual
effects.
CJudge: I've just been called to the set.
Moderator: Chris, you're the greatest --
Moderator: thanks so much for taking this extra time
with us!\
CJudge: It's amazing how quickly the time passes! I
will be getting around the world and seeing everyone.
Moderator: Will you come back and chat with us again?
CJudge: I'll be in Hunt Md. www.shore-leave.com
CJudge: Hopefully we can schedule another chat in the
near future.
Moderator: We hope so.
Moderator: Thanks again, Chris.
Moderator: This has been a great chat! Thank you,
Chris, for joining us. It meant a LOT to a lot of people. And thanks
to everyone in the audience as well. You asked great questions! If I
didn't submit one you asked, it could be because it was answered earlier
in the chat. There will be a transcript of tonight's chat in case you
missed any of the chat. And don't forget to join us Tuesday, June 24
for our regularly scheduled Asimov's Chat when we will be chatting with
writer Charles Stross.
CJudge: We'll see you in London, Reunion Island,
Barcelona, Scotland, we''l see you very soon.
Moderator: I'm going to UNmoderate this room now... |
