SyFy Channel Cancels Stargate Universe
The Syfy Channel's Craig Engler posted via Twitter that Stargate Universe is being canceled (first reported by Deadline.com). "Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011," Engler said. "The Stargate franchise" consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe "has aired on Syfy since 2002."

Stargate has been on the air continuously since 1997 when SG-1 debuted on Showtime. No future Stargate series is planned at this time.

SyFy Replaces Friday Programming with Wrestling
Starting in October, Syfy will begin airing WWE's Friday Night Smackdown in place of long-running Friday night drama series, such as Stargate Universe and Sanctuary. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "there's nothing more sci-fi than ... competitive wrestling."

We believe that this marks the beginning of the end for the troubled network, which rebranded itself as "SyFy" last year. By distancing itself from its science fiction roots, it seems to have lost its identity.

Season Five Given the Green Light by Sci-Fi
From a report in Variety: The Sci Fi Channel has given a fifth-season renewal to "Stargate Atlantis," commissioning 20 fresh episodes.

" 'Atlantis' truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series this year and proved that it's a hit in its own right," said Sci Fi's Mark Stern, exec veep of original programming. The show's predecessor, "Stargate SG-1," ran for 10 seasons on Sci Fi before completing its run last year.   Continues...

Stargate Atlantis Season 4 Hits TV Tonight!
The Sci Fi Channel will resume new episodes of Stargate Atlantis tonight (September 28th) at 10 PM.

Stargate to Resume April 6 on Sci Fi Channel
According to various reports, the Sci Fi Channel will resume new episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis on April 6th. There will be 10 new episodes of each show. Click below to view a teaser for SG-1.

MGM Greenlights Two New Stargate SG-1 Movies
MGM announced today the extension of the hit Stargate SG-1 franchise with two new movies based on the popular series. Titled Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum, the movies will both be made available to the television universe and home entertainment marketplace by MGM. The announcement was made by Charles Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President of MGM.

Sci Fi Delays Stargate Until April
According to TV Guide, the Sci Fi Channel has delayed the second half of the current seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis until April 2007. Previously, the shows had been scheduled to return in March, but that was already a delay from the usual January debut.

Other countries will have completed their run of the current season before viewers in the United States see the mid-season return of the show.

MGM Acquires Film Made By 'Stargate' Stars
MGM has acquired the worldwide rights to A Dog's Breakfast, an original dark comedy shot by members of the cast and crew of Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 while on a production hiatus earlier this year. The film, which will be distributed for television and home video, marks the directorial debut for actor David Hewlett, who stars as Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis.

Interview with Stargate Atlantis' David Hewlett
Stargate Information Archive's Linz and Abbey were lucky enough to chat with Stargate Atlantis actor David Hewlett about wrapping up Stargate Atlantis (as well as SG-1!) for the season and his new and upcoming movie A Dog's Breakfast in which he talks about his directorial debut and all that comes with it, the distribution process and how fun it is to watch co-star Paul McGillion get hit over the head multiple times.

Stargate SG-1 Direct-to-DVD Movies Coming Next Year?
According to a report at TVguide.com, MGM has granted a green light to produce two Stargate SG-1 movies, most likely for DVD. Executive producer Brad Wright told TV Guide that the first movie will tie up most of the series finale's loose threads — "It's the climax of the Ori story line" — and will be written-directed by executive producer Robert Cooper. The second film, penned by Wright, will involve time travel, and both projects should debut in the fall of 2007.

Pierre Bernard on Stargate SG-1 Cancellation
Earlier this week, the Late Night with Conan O'Brien show once again featured Pierre Bernard with his latest Recliner of Rage segment, in which he relates his displeasure at the cancellation of his favorite television series, Stargate SG-1. Stargate SG-1 Cancelled by Sci Fi Channel?
According to various reports, the Sci Fi Channel has cancelled Stargate SG-1. According to Multichannel News: "People close to the production of Stargate SG-1 said Sci Fi Channel canceled the series on the eve of its 200th episode, making the show the first cable scripted series to reach such a milestone. The announcement came in sometime before cast, crew and executives gathered to celebrate the historic airing." Meanwhile, Stargate Atlantis has been renewed for a fourth season.

Stargate SG-1 200th Episode and Special Event
On August 18th, the Sci Fi Channel will be playing the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1! What has been less publicized is that there will also be a Stargate retrospective running right before (at 8 PM), covering the first 10 years of the show, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of the 200th episode.

Sci Fi to Delay Second Half of Stargate Series?
According to reports coming out of Comic Con, the Sci Fi Channel has plans to delay the second half of the season of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis until March of 2007. In the past, the second half of each series has returned in early January and finished its run in late March. Sci Fi Channel Executive Vice President of Original Programming Mark Stern has stated that they are making the schedule change to accommodate year-round programming. (Battlestar Galactica is slated to begin its third season in October and end in March.)

Dean Devlin Still Wants to Make 'Stargate' Sequels
According to an article at ComingSoon.net, Dean Devlin (producer and writer of the original Stargate feature film which starred Kurt Russell and James Spader), wants to finish the trilogy of films that he had originally planned.

"I'd want the films to stay on track for what the original three were planned to be," said Devlin. "I'd want to let the series stand on their own."

Stargate Atlantis Nominated for Emmy Award!
Stargate Atlantis has been nominated for an Emmy Award! The Season Two episode "Grace Under Pressure" has been nominated in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Dramatic Underscore) category. Stargate Atlantis was nominated last year, but did not win for either Outstanding Special Effects For A Series or Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.
