Help! I've been signed off work for another week and a bit. Now there's not much really wrong with me but I'm not allowed to do...well anything really. I'm normally a really active (and mentally active) person, and I am already going out of my skull with boredom.
To help me through this difficult time I've re-aquainted myself with my long lost love of fanfic. I'm slowly working my way through all the ones posted in here from our members, however I am running out of good fiction! I noticed there was no fanfic recomendation thread so thought I'd start one in the hope that some people here can point me in the direction of some decent stuff to read. I'm bored, but I'm not that bored that I want to trawl through tons of crap to get to something read-worthy. Though we could use this thread to recomend some of the excellent stuff (not written by us) that is out there for like minded fans. As we all like different things I'd suggest we make it a rule that story title and/or author (link or address of where it can be found) and perhaps the summary/rating/category are provided, so people can see if they'd like this particular story. I'm going to start by recomending an author in general: Katerina17, whose works can be found here She does a lot of short stories. Dark angsty stuff and a fair bit or character death. One that particularly impressed me, for it's emotional maturity is Healing (Angst/hurt/comfort/adult themes). It's short but very powerful. And remember to send the authors feedback. Feedback is the food of the muse! |

Yes, ok! I'm two months late!
I think it's good to swap favorites, you learn more about each other and communities can connect... My fav is Badgergater, lemme see, uh, her site is... *gives IE a swift kick up the....* here It's called O'Neill's house. She loves to hurt Jack, You've been warned! Her site is split up nicely into new and old, humor, angst, general, etc. There are some nice comedies (I don't like angst ummm, and a lot of them have seasons they are set in or episodes they are derived from, kinda like sequels and things that weren't said, etc. awww, heck! Go check it out! |

Well, I spend a lot of time over at Heliopolis.
A few great stories I found there: Family SG-1 Style: When Jack's sister dies, Jack gets custody. All the problems of having 3 kids around show up... Kohl: Teal'c reflects on his life and his stoicism |

Does that mean I have to write 'thank you' emails for everyone? This could take awhile... Well, it's the polite thing to do I suppose. Probably only about 1% of people who read your stuff will actually bother to send feedback. I always felt that if someone has bothered to write and tell me what they thought of my work, I shoudl at least thank them for their interest. I used to love replying to feedback, back in my fanfic writing days. I made alot of new friendships out of it, and even earned myself a stalker -well, someone who periodically emailed me to nag me to write more, and tracked down the web site I posted on to tell everyone to tell me to write more. It was all quite flattering at the time. I read Inevitable, magnavox, and thought it was very good. Very sad though. Here's a rec. http://infanity.ficlaundering.com/moa/fic/..._biceptual.html I like this authors works in general. |

I'm still exploring SG fanfic on the 'net, but on fanfiction.net, my favorite author is aerynsg1, esp her "Circles" 12 chapters, TBC unfortunately. (Rated R)
She's awesome, this story elicited going from cracking up laughing, to bawling my eyes out. My reviews aren't too bad, but I pale in comparison with this person. I won't spoil what made me bawl, but it involved Daniel and memories of Sha're. The ROFLMAO was a note Teal'c passes to (I think) Carter during a meeting. The author introduces a character, who's quite intelligent like Sam, and O'Neill says something about them "speaking in tongues" when they go off on some scientific mumbo-jumbo. Her writing is a perfect mix of dialogue and description, not too wordy, not too bare and keeping you guessing. |

Does that mean I have to write 'thank you' emails for everyone? This could take awhile... I'm fairly new to it too, and I'm always thrilled when someone has taken his or her precious time to review my work. I always try to return the favor. When I can reply to them, such as clarifying a point that they might have commented on, I do so. The majority of reviews I get are via fanfiction.net, which has a bot sending you email that you've received a review. I go to the site, and 90% of the time, there's no way for me to email them back. I wish I could, because I received one review that inspired me to change the final chapter of "Endeavor to SGC". "'How can Tony go back to Cocoa Beach if people think he is dead? After all the trouble you went towards building a Sam/Roger relationship you are going to let them end it there? Guess I am surprised. Still, I enjoyed the cross.' (sg1niner sez: I took this review to heart, and totally changed the last chapter. This person had a good point. I created the fake news story of the two guys miraculously ejecting and being rescued in the Pacific, and I had Roger staying on at the SGC, not going to the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory with the Healey Volcano data. I wish I knew how to contact her and thank her for being so observant!)" (I know I cited this quote in another post tonight, but I'm making a point.) I have a note in my fanfiction.net profile that says those who review others' fanfic will earn good karma. So send reviews. Please. Just so folks know their work isn't going out into the vapor. Or ether either. I'll do the same. |

There is some really great stuff at stargatefan.com. (sorry, I can't do the link, I'm a computer moron.)
My personal faves are: "Hardwired" by iiionly; "Ripples" by ELG;(both of these are long, but well worth the effort) and "Rock and a Hard Place" by Sam Walker. I'm a huge fan of the Daniel/Jack stories and these are some of the best. "The Auction" by Hawk50 is flat out hilarious and features a very sexy Daniel, for those who like that kind of thing. Me do!!!!!! This post has been edited by wonderland: Apr 16th 2005, 7:40 PM |

AerynSG1 on fanfiction.net has an awesome SG1 story going called "Circles." I've laughed uproariously and sobbed openly from this story. She's incredibly good.
Ster J, also on FF.net, is excellent at Star Trek: the Original Series. She does many "After the Credits" and Missing Scenes. She brings a whole new light to many eps, like the horrid ep "Spock's Brain," she shows from a different POV. I told her I'd never be able to watch it again without busting a gut laughing. I've got a good start on fanfic myself, check out my links. As for reviews and feedback: Please remember, we fanfic writers get nothing in return except knowing someone's enjoying our efforts. Please, send a review, even if it's just to say, "Hey,this series rocks! Can't wait for the next installment!" I was getting very discouraged in my SG1/IDOJ crossover, then some people said, Yeah, we're reading it,when's the next installment? Even if I know five people are reading, I'll keep writing. Send feedback. Good karma comes to those who do. (That's not a perpetual series, btw, it's going to wrap up in one more story.) EDIT: Oops, didn't realize I'd already replied to this...haven't been here for a couple days at least, been working on stories. sg1niner http://sg1ninerfanfic.blogspot.com/ This post has been edited by sg1niner: Apr 21st 2005, 5:51 PM |

If you want really good fanfic and I mean REALLY good, I suggest you check out the website of a guy known as "The Prophet"Stargate SG-1 Fanfiction by The Prophet. He's also a regular on Gateworld and posts a lot of his fic's there.
Most of his stuff is pretty close to official canon (except where it was screwed up by later episodes) and introduces a host of well thought out new charchters, and PoV's from people all over the galaxy. Plus many of his fics are huge serialised epics that DO finish up and have repercussions in his later fics...you could view it as a very slight AU version of Stargate. Basically they could nearly be "Stargate SG-1:The lost episodes. Then there are his own spinoff series including the HP Lovecraft inspired adventures of SG-7 and their battle against the Pre-Ancient threat. Basically I strongly advise you to check this guy out. He has real talent and you'll be glad you did. |

"Pushed into it" by JaneDavitt Pairing Jack/Daniel Rating NC17 No spoilers. Set maybe S4. There's a wonderful description of Daniel in just his underwear and boonie hat...I'll leave it at that... |

I'm following one on Wraithbait called "The Origin of All Things" that I'm enjoying. Hasn't been an update in awhile, though.
I think it has an interesting storyline plus sex. |

oh I hate when they don't update forever, especially when it is listed as complete. I started reading one that J/S ship. thought is was just a nice quick one since it was listed as completed. Got to ch 3 and it ended with a huge cliffhanger. Took weeks to get updates. Finally several ch came along and thne nothing for 3 months. 2 new chapters have just been added, but I'm in the middle of Moon's 5th novel (which is a work in progress but she is very upfront about that. she just announced the completed novel should be uploaded by Halloween)
