Interesting episode...kind of a mish mash of themes
The rand had those Nazi-esque uniforms, which gave the cold war theme a 1940's WW2 touch. That and the Garands they were sporting, heh...funny how they had Ak-47s as well. That Cain guy was a cool looking dude, real serious looking. The military strategy was pretty interesting...the nice two pronged pincer they managed to pull together with a limited force. Kind of ended with a hint of the recent Iraq war... Since they helped over throw a dictator, they promised to stay and help rebuild...sound familiar? Ok I'm missing Atlantis... |

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this episode. Not sure at all. But from the very beginning, I found myself transfixed by the story and the characters. They were compelling, real, and likeable.
This was simply a fantastic episode through and through. A+ in my book. |

I liked this episode, especially the first 45 or so minutes (including commercials). For those who've been complaining about not seeing SG-1 exploring new worlds, here you go, you had one of those episodes! But I also felt this emptiness when I saw Sam, Daniel & Teal'c stepping through the Stargate, and not seeing O'Neill. It'll still take me a while to get used to that.
This episode had a lot of potential, in my mind it could have been a two-parter, but I thought the end was a little sloppy. It feels like the writers/producers have their hands feel with two shows going on, and couldn't put the finishing touches on this one. I can't immediately put my finger on what was missing, but it reminds me of when I had to write papers and ran out of time or energy by the time I got to the end. I also can't help but notice that last week was a Jack episode, this week was a Daniel episode, and it looks like next week will be a Teal'c episode. Is this how Stargate will be this season? While I think this season so far is better than season 7, I do miss the team (I know, I know, there was a lot of team interaction in this one, but it's not the same). I do understand that the characters have to progress, and can't just stay at the status quo (I mean, this isn't the Simpsons where the characters don't age |

This week's episode kinda had that World War II Germany thing going on. It was still great though. I would love to see Jack go through the gate and shoot something up... like in the old days!!

I really liked this episode, I thought it was better than previous eps. I agree that it was a little strange seeing Sam come through the gate first instead of Jack, but I thought that O'Neill was well used in this episode even if he didn't go off-world.
"The second things start getting a little squirelly... Daniel, squirelly!" lol. Even if this was a "Daniel" episode, the rest of the team had a good amount of screen time. I thought it was interesting that the planet's technology seemed to be a lot like the 1940's WWII era. The uniforms, the radio, the weapons, and all that. From the spoilers, though, I expected there to be more of a romance between Dr. Jackson and Leta than there actually was. Daniel just seemed to me to be more of a friend than anything else. He was someone for her to talk to when Kane was gone. |

Yeah, I thought there was a lot of subtle commentary on the Iraq sitch--much of which will no doubt be lost on the non-news junkies who watch. But that's okay. *pausing to take my soma* Something for everyone. The whole 2-factions-versus-religious-fundementalists-who-were-really-just-out-to-grab-the-most-resources-and-have-power-over-everyone--that's the war we brought about. And the ep definitely reflects the roots of the Iraq sitch--the Cold War when Sadaam was given power by the US to fight the fundementalists of Iran--not to mention the Afghanistan vs Soviets alliances. Anywhoo, it's nice that they had some very appealing actors for the non-regulars. I can imagine both the guy who played Kane and lady who played Leda harkening back to their early careers when they got their start on Stargate. |

The comment toward the beginning of the episode about the circle pendants becoming more of a fashion piece than a statement of faith stood out to me -- sort of like cross pendants.
I, too, missed seeing Jack step through the gate with SG-1. "General O'Neill" and "Colonel Carter" are still sounding weird to my ears! |

It was an okay episode. It was kinda like The Other Side only turned upside down and sg1 was right in the middle and end of it. It had that feel to it. It was good balance of everyone being in the episode. I loved Teal'cs passion when he was arguing to that Nazi guy Soren constantly. Im glad he got killed-it was the only way. DId his followers get shot or surrender cuz Im not sure if I heard gunshots as they were opening the bunker center.... Wow Daniel finally gets rejected after all those others on other planets hooking up with him.
Yeah thats exactly what my husband said! Most people do wear crosses and dont know exactly what it means, they think its just for fashion but I dont wear crosses at all, though I do have a stargate one. |

Alright I gotta admit I do like the Daniel episodes so I really liked this one except for how they had the whole flashback then the present thing, I hate that. It did work for Meridian but I didn't like it for this episode. Too bad it wasn't a two-parter.
How is it that Daniel was there all alone on another planet anyway? Why weren't Carter and Teal'c there when everything happened, since when do they send just one person? Then when Jack said he needed to talk to them I was kinda hoping he was gonna go through the gate himself. Oh well, I still wish he would go offworld. |

Dark, very dark episode. With a lot of current events immediacy, as well as the bad old Cold War days about it. Excellent!
Jack really let fly at Carter, too! The scene in his office was awesome. She was babbling on about hunting Daniel down in a mess of jumbled radio signals, and he just yelled at her, "Do it!" Wow! So far all of the episodes have been outstanding. Am getting used to the "new order," and I like it. A full 4 stars out of 5 -- one star short of perfection, but only because this episode was so heavy on the social commentary. Reminded me of the old saying: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." |

With the exception of "Lost City, Pt2", this was the best episode of the season, so far. There was enough action and emotion to satisfy, although the humor is still not up to par. But that's hard to achieve without Jack jumping through the gate with them. Something the writers still need to work on.
I thought Carter proved herself as a commander when they rescued Daniel. Not only were all the SG teams looking to her, so were the locals, and it worked. You can see Jack trying to pull himself, emotionally, back from SG1. The realization that he has a dozen or so other teams to worry about, too, has finally hit the new base commander. (I realize now I might have been too quick to criticize his reactions in Zero Hour.) And poor Daniel! Nearly getting killed (again!) and then falling for someone that he can't have. And on a simply shallow note, why did Teal'c have the best hair of any of them? I can understand Daniel's, he's supposedly been laid up for awhile. But I hated Sam's new style. Please go back to the supershort cut, it made the most of Amanda's beautiful eyes! |

Actually, "Lost City" part two was the Season 7 finale, but I get your point. I like Sam's new cut -- as long as she keeps the sides tucked behind her ears. Otherwise, it turns into that awful shaggy mess she had during (I think) Season 4. I'm not sure, though, since that combined with the bizarre thing on Teal'c's chin became so visually traumatic I blocked much of that season from my memory! I hope we get to see more of the different dynamic between Gen. O'Neill and the rest of the SGC, compared with Gen. Hammond. Hammond started out as base commander, and we can count on one hand all the times he went off-world. Jack, on the other hand, spent seven years leading the flagship team, and now he's stuck behind a desk and has to adjust to his new role as the one responsible for the entire base. On an even more shallow note, Michael Shanks needs to watch out for that dreaded middle age spread as he approaches the big 4-0. At first, I thought maybe my eyes were just playing tricks on me when his face looked rounder, but Daniel's uniforms (especially the blue) also looked a bit bigger, and the clothes he wore while stranded off-world in last night's eppy definitely showed that he's developing a bit of a gut -- and I don't think it seemed that way because he was slouching! |

Yeah, you're right. Silly me -- since it's been the case with most of the other shows I watch, I jsut figured that character and actor were pretty much the same age. Was I the only one who had a hard time following this eppy? Normally I do a pretty good job keeping up with plotlines that jump back and forth in time, last night I was thoroughly confused for a good chunk of the middle! |

Wow, I must have watched something totally different because I did not like this episode at all. From beginning to ending I felt like I was watching something from the first or second season, not the last one.
I'm sorry, the episode was just too predictable and not very interesting to me, but we can't all be satisfied. I'm glad alot of you enjoyed it, maybe if I watch it again, I will feel differently. I just want you all to know that just because I didnt like this ep, doesn't mean it was not a good ep. And when are we gonna see Carter nekkid again ?! |

Yes, exactly. I mean come on...why would you use one of the Earth's most recognizable weapons (AK-47), and try to pass it off as an alien gun. A gun made by aliens, that are supposed to have developed on an entirely different planet. Yea, at least modify it a little. Give it a straight clip instead of a banana clip or something...ah well. The Garand however I am not so pissed about because it is more of a simple looking weapon, less distinctive and recognizable by everyone. Also, it seemed to fit the 1940's era look that this episode seemed to be going for. Ah well...Other than that It was a fine episode. This post has been edited by Bowley: Aug 7th 2004, 5:29 PM |

After getting past the jumbled style of setting up this episode, three things really stood out for me.
First was the matte painting of the alien city. It looked like.....well, it looked like a painting. The stationary smoke from the chimney froze the scene. This surprises me because the show has usually been better about adding a moving element to such scenes to give them life and depth. Second was the comment Daniel made to Kane just after SG-1's arrival. The one about how it wasn't surprising that both groups were human. He said there was a reason for that. Yes, there is. It has to do with the Ancient's "seeding" the galaxy. Except only the Atlantis team knows this and since contact hasn't been reestablished with them yet, Daniel or anyone else at the SGC doesn't have this information. A bit of careless crossover between the two shows. Third was Colonel Carter leading multiple teams on a combat mission. That was cool, very cool. |

There were gun fight scenes???? I don't know anything about guns, but the rifles looked really old to me. And I did wonder why Carter didn't bring Daniel a P90 (I think that's what they're called) if she knew that they were badly armed. But where did Daniel's pistol go? He had it when he was injured, didn't he? I did think Carter rocked as the mission commander. I'd follow her into battle, but we'd all be screwed cause I shoot even worse than Daniel This post has been edited by wonderland: Aug 7th 2004, 9:54 PM |
