Who is your favorite team? Do you play football? Do you watch it? I don't play it, but I like watching it. And I cheer for the Eagles...

You should perhaps said american football, because we Brits love our kind of football or soccer as you americans call it. Aside from that have a good season when it starts

My favorite teams are the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers and especially the Washington Redskins. But they didn't play good football within the last years. I also like Denver and San Francisco.
I absolutely hate the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders. I watch the results and Superbowl of course. They don't show much football in Germany and the German (American) football is crap. I also have a lot of favorite soccer teams but I already said it in another thread. Go, Redskins, go! Attached image(s)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, ... probably the ...hmm....Chiefs and the .......Houston Texans; I hated the Cowboys for bout 10 years til Parcells came along, that guy rules. Only reason I vote for Chiefs cause they got the best running back in all of football and he's a native.
Right on Rookie! We're the most powerful nation, we can call our sports whatever we want!! |

Thats right \mighty Thor, thank you for saying that. It does really annoy me when some people call various games differently.

I think the guy who invented the word 'soccer' wasn't dumb. American Football should be called football and the other game (noticed? the ball looks different...) should be called Soccer. At least in English.
In German it's no problem. Soccer = Fu?ball and American Football = Football. But there wasn't someone who tried to give it another name. So it's up to you. Your problem now. I will call it soccer in English. |

OK let me put this stupidity to rest please.
from http://www.wordorigins.org/wordors.htm Soccer Soccer is an abbreviation for Association Football. The Football Association was formed in London in October 1863 when representatives of eleven clubs and schools met in an attempt to standardize the rules of the game. One of the rules prohibited the carrying of the ball, a rule that would lead to the Rugby-oriented clubs leaving the Association several months later. The name Association Football was coined to distinguish it from Rugby. By 1889, the abbreviation socca' was in use, and the spelling soccer had made its appearance by 1895. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So really the word 'soccer' was an invention of you Brits so get over it ! |

I used to watch Detroit when Barry Sanders was playing. God that guy was amazing! It is funny how American Football has not too much to do with your feet. It makes sense that "soccer" is called foot ball, as the game is primarily centered around using your foot on a ball. Why was American Football called football anyway?? |

I'm a proud Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder. In addition to that I'll be going to at least two road games this year. I have a hard time figuring out what team in the NFL is going to be able to defend against their offense this year. They will be able to counter every type of defense out there. This team has the potential to beat their points record set two years ago.
Until a team can prove that they can beat them, I'll have to say that the Patriots are likely to repeat their Superbowl appearance, this time against the Eagles. |

Ok 'soccer' is called football, thats its name, the people who invented it called it football, soccer is just kind of like a slang for it. Which was used barely at all btw. And then u guys make ur own 'football' and try to offically change then name of ours to the slang! Thats just wrong!! We had it first!! I mean why the hell did u call ur sport football in the first place!?!? There was already a football, which was a very popular sport. Then u invent a new sport and decide to call it the same thing!!I mean its like me inventing a new sport and going "hmmm, what shall i call it, i know, lets call it golf!!" wtf??
I feel strongly about this especially as the americans try and gte the rest of the world to call it soccer!! And football makes more sence to apply to our game, we use our feet mainly to play, u dont, it makes no sence urs being called football except for it to rip off the name!! We should come up with a new name for ur sport. Ps. in FOOTBALL i support Man U and brentford! |

my favorite FOOTBALL team is Manchester United
i agree 1000000000000000000000000000000000001% with you. i think these americans should change the name of their sport to something like handball oh but i guess that is taken already. oh why not say "hafoball" ha from hand fo from foot thats it we have a new name for american football it is now officially called HAFOBALL looooooooooool |
