I have never thought about it but how did the Goa'uld get so smart?

I know no sci-fi universe has perfect seamless backstory from series to series or even eisode to episode.

But, think about it they inhabited the Unas first, and technically the Stargates would have already had to have been there for them to use.

But, how did they, I know "we" figured it out but we were well on our way to developing computers and modern technology to help us decode how to use the gate.

But when the Goa'uld were still supposed to be water dwelling animals that used larger lumbering cave men level Unas as hosts how did they ever set and figure out how to:

Use the gate
Figure out how the internal sturcture of the crystals worked
Had the simple understanding of anything except how to eat, swim, and be a parasite

It boggles the mind unless one Goa'uld Queen managed to infest an ancient that knew everything about the Stargate.

And must have used/taken some other technology from other races or the Goa'uld ships would look just like the Ancients ship in the Universe show .

Goa'ulds didn't infect ancients, as we figure out in so many episodes they don't understand ancient technology.
Assuming natural selection a-la darwin, its a fluke that queens infected smarter and smarter hosts. That's all.
If they originated from a single planet, they still managed to live thousands of years. That`s a lot of time to think and get smart enough to dial the same coordinate or infect a random non-ancient visitor.

I don't get how a queen can infect a host though, it's so big. It is likely that a symbioth can pass its lucky knowledge to a queen in some way, or become a queen somehow.

We found out their first hosts were the Unas. The Goa'uld were always self aware so all they had to do was take someone who understand more advanced technology as a host. That Goa'uld would immediately learn aeverything the host knew and could use or even recreate the technology. If they saw something they wanted, they would just implant a symbiote in a person who understond that technology.

Like Daniel said, they didnt discover any of their technology, they just stole it.

The Queen is a similar size to a normal symbiote. The rear "baglike" partof her is just there for spawning more symbiotes. If you have seen the film 'Aliens' then it's the same thing - the Alien Queen has a similar organ attached to her but can split from it when necessary.
