The movie was definitely exciting, but it lacks a good story. I just can't get over the fact that a Romulan saw his home planet destroyed, and is then sent back in time. So what's the first thing he does? Isn't it obvious? Destroy Vulcan of course! 'Cause that one vulcan guy was kinda near by, maybe...
This movie was a lot like first contact. A lot of pointless shooting, people acting out of character, and a LOT of contrivance. Thanks to this film, whenever me and my friends can't explain something well enough, we just shout "RED MATTER!" Of course this movie wasn't all bad. Nifty music and pretty colors count for something. On my MOVIE-FOOD-ANALYSIS-SCALE-OF-AWESOMENESS this movie comes in under: HAPPY MEAL: For the kids. Bright, fun, and definitely enjoyable once and a while, but nothing remarkable. Lacks substance. Essentially speed racer in space. |

I actually felt the story was very well done. They managed to come up with a way to re-energize the franchise using the original characters. That is not easy, and they did it very well.
I saw it for the second time yesterday. This story was so well done that it appealed to the order generations that knew the original cast, yet also to the younger ones that have never been exposed to any of it. All generations were laughing and applauding during this movie. Personally, I can't wait to see future movies. |

I can't see how you can say anyone acted out of character, when we were looking at the characters far before you knew them. And even so, we still saw them acting the way we would expect.
I agree with Indy, the story was done pretty well considering that they wanted to use this as sort of a prequal, take Star Trek to a new place. I thought it was a total success. |

ITA, I knew who each character was practically as soon as they opened their mouths, especially Bones! |

For the first time since trek 8 I actually felt like I was watching a movie, and not a bad episode, so I guess I should give them some credit.
