This is a thread for the discussion of the new Star Trek movie coming out next summer.

Apparently, the first full trailer will debut with Quantum of Solace.

QUOTE(Parmenides @ May 22nd 2009, 1:05 PM) *

Just got back from seeing it, and it was...alright. I was expecting SO MUCH because everything I'd talked to had said how entirely amazing it was...and I did quite enjoy it, but don't feel it was one of the best films of the year. The science was appalling (come on, usually Star Trek is alright when it comes to science), and the story lacked magnitude (sure, the Federation planets were in danger...but at the hands of an insane miner).

Yeah, like slingshot around the sun, and you're back in time...

The actor playing Chekov in ST is also in Terminator, but I won't say which role. smile.gif His name is Anton something.

My buddy picked that up during Terminator. I he might be the new Hugo Weaving (as far as making money from two blockbusters).

Ah. 1.gif I was unaware of that episode. 1.gif

One thing that really bugged me at the end of the film was how jettisoning then exploding the warp core (or whatever that was) was enough to help them escape the pull of the black hole...but their warp engines weren't? I'm pretty sure I heard someone say 'but we're already at warp!' when Kirk said to go to warp. That's a pretty major flaw to me, since, by definition, warp is faster than the speed of light, yet the explosion in normal space could only increase their speed towards the speed of light from below...and surely an explosion that powerful would blow the ship to hell anyway? 1.gif

I'll take off my nerdy objections hat now.

(GOOD GOD, IT'S STUCK TO MY HEAD.)

LOL, I had exactly the same thought. How powerful could the explosion be, to help with light speed.

The slingshot around the sun thing...
