It actually appears more likely that Reese was created after the asurans.

But it is not clear who created Reese, it could have been an ancient

Yes, that is true, but I was pointing out the fact that you said they built the Asurans after building Reese, and I think Reese came after the Asurans.

I don't think there is any doubt that she was created after the Asurans.

There are two lines of speculation:
1. Reece was created by an Ancient who left Earth after returning from Atlantis or;
2. Reece was created by a Human using Ancient knowledge.

personally I think that the Asurans are just another way that the Ancients F*cked up
if they had been handled properly they could have been an extremely useful asset or at least a way for the ancients to help the humans of the pegasus galaxy.blowing them up was just wrong they weren't harming anybody and it just gave them reason to hate humans and ancients. the ancient could have programmed them to advance civilisations like when rodney and sheppard did in (i think it was) the game.

The Asurans were extremely aggressive. The Ancients tried to wipe them out because they weren't the planned result of the experiment. As we saw with McKay, their code could be altered. If the Ancients altered it so they helped Humans, what is to say another race couldn't come along and alter them again to attack all Humans?
The Ancients knew what the Asurans were, an aggressive race with the ability to duplicate Ancient technology and therefore the ability to cause a lot of damage on a huge scale.

quite simpy by making their program read only. like on a computer once a manufacturer has the bugs
written out of a program they make it read only so that it can't be altered by anyone maybe only by themselves with certain passcodes

perhaps but the ancients could make it extremely difficult to hack it especially with their technical know how

Only a small group of Asurans wanted to change their basecode though. If their entire race wanted to do it, they would have been able to change it but the small group would not have had the resources of their entire race.

THe Ancients did make it extremely difficult, so much so that the Asurans couldn't even do it. McKay had their technical know how... what are you talking about?

All Lancelot is saying is that McKay had the ability to change the Asurans base code. But I reckon that it wasn't a matter of the Asurans being able to crack a password to gain access to their own code. I think that the Ancients would have made it so the Asurans weren't 'allowed' to access their own code, in a similar way that they were prevented from attacking Ancients.

maybe their reasons for altering the code where not hidden to the program.

maybe they wanted to remove the "not harm ancients" part. and that was restricting them from altering any of the code.

thank you dave you put accross my point very well.but I was also saying that the ancients could have made it so that it would be next to impossible for anyone but themselves to crack the base code including
any other human race.

Perhaps the Asurans were mentally incapable of going in and altering their basecode.

My point is that Mckay is part of any other human race and it didn't take him very long to change the basecode.

Sort of like windows being unable to edit files when they're in use. Or more simply, like Simon Pheonix couldn't harm Raymond Cocto (sp?) in Demolition Man?

I agree with you here. Although the Asurans can not alter their own code, whats to stop anyone else from doing it? All that would be required would be an understanding of Ancient technology which McKay obviously has. But one point is that most civilizations in Pegasus appear to be stalled in their development. So such a complicated understanding of atomic and nano particles would be far beyond them. And with the Wraith continually culling a society, development in science would be very slow.

Unconscious suggestions... subconscious command programming... there is a human parallel.

Just something random I thought of: Do the Wraith know of the Asurans existence in Pegasus let alone the fact that they are actually replicators?

I would expect that the wraith do know of them but since the asurans can't be eaten and have no wish to fight the wraith
» Click to Show Spoiler «

that they just leave them alone especially since their technollogy is better than the wraiths.
