Well, it's like Ares said in the last thread:
It was bound to happen eventually. I just hope they're allowed to finish Season 10! |

It was bound to happen eventually. I agree, but it's just so frustrating from a creative point of view for it to be cancelled now - they've opened up so many new avenues with the Ori, and BB and CB, and the idea of cross-overs with Atlantis has never really been fully explored. Do we know when it'll be confirmed? |

Mike and I had convos before about this moment. People always bitched and complained about minute details in past eps but didn't just enjoy the show for what it was. Now that it's gonna be cancelled, people are up in arms and going to write letters and other nonsense.
Sci Fi just gave it the timeslot death and that's that. Snakes on a plane. |

Yeah, and now we're going to see an influx of n00bs coming in posting petitions and stuff to get Stargate back on the air...

Do we know when it'll be confirmed? Probably in a press release in the next few days. As I said in the other thread the time just doesn't go. They can't start all these new threads and then just end it straight away. The bring in the Ori to be around for 2 years QUOTE Yeah, and now we're going to see an influx of n00bs coming in posting petitions and stuff to get Stargate back on the air... We could just create one big topic just so people don't do it This post has been edited by Invisible Painting: Aug 21st 2006, 6:07 PM |

From what I've read, it was the 3 hours of Stargate SG-1, Atlantis and Galactica on a Friday night that gave Sci-Fi it's high ratings. As they have held back on Galactica this year, the two hours of Stargate are being recorded by people instead of watched "live" causing a drop in ratings. What I don't get is what Sci-Fi are expecting to happen to the ratings when they air Galactica and Atlantis on a Friday night. It will still be two shows airing for a total of two hours, so why do Sci-Fi believe that fans will sit down to watch the combination of those two particular shows when the ratings dropped when Atlantis was paired with SG-1? Are Sci-Fi pinning all their hopes on Galactica now?
What happens if ratings continue to drop next year? Will they cancel Atlantis and Galacitca too? |

The funny part is that in the 200th episode the following happens:
After the shoot of the 200th Wormhole Extreme episode, the producer gets a phone call and yells "Hey anybody, guess what - the movie is back on!" I guess the producers had an idea the series would not be renewed, and were already aiming for a movie ... ? |

I think if you really want to blame something, it comes down to
1. Keeping around long term actors like Tapping Judge and Shanks with their continually escalating saleries. I read an interview with one of the creators somewhere, saying that making the show Stargate Command and changing over the cast might have kept it going. 2. The Canadian dollar. A few years ago it was 66 cents canadian to one US dollar, now it's getting up to 90 cents. This post has been edited by FreshPez: Aug 21st 2006, 7:09 PM |

Are Sci-Fi pinning all their hopes on Galactica now? What happens if ratings continue to drop next year? Will they cancel Atlantis and Galacitca too? I believe that is exactly what is happening. SciFi channel believes that SGA and BSG are strong enough to carry the channel. BSG is outstanding and I wish them all the luck in the world, but in my opinion, SGA cannot pick up the slack from SG-1's cancellation. Makes me wonder if SciFi has another, cheaper show in the works. I guess they kind of forgot that SG-1 put the SciFi channel on the map. |

I cannot tell you how upset I am about this. What a classy thing to do, perfect timing, right?
I said before that last year had the best ratings with the 3 shows on Friday. So why did they hold back on BSG? I said before it was as if they were trying to end SG1. They were trying to see it not succeed. I hope that at least season 10 will be completed. If they do a movie, I want it to be the tv SG1 people, not Devlin, please. |

MGM can find someone else to pick up SG-1, I suspect. Someone who's willing to pay the beaucoup dolares necessary to keep the show's quality intact, not to mention the actors' salaries. A premium cable channel, perhaps? The new CW?
I'm quite sad about all this, really. Now I know how the Farscape people felt. |

I read an interview with one of the creators somewhere, saying that making the show Stargate Command and changing over the cast might have kept it going. It's obvious that if they had a new cast the show would continue. That's the only reason that Atlantis has been renewed, the cast of Atlantis get paid less than those of SG-1 and so production costs are much lower. |

As I said it could be a good idea on MGMs part maybe to go to sky one, the UK channel who shows stargate. They always get good ratins (As in nealy double that of what 24 gets them) and they've put in funding for galactica so it could be a good avenue to persue... And then someone in america can pick it up as well. But if they wanted to continue the show I think that would be good. |

BSG was moved to give the network new shows all year round. I understand what they did, having 20 weeks of your top three shows, you want to spread it around. I dont' think it was a conscience decision to kill SG1. They just over estimated sg1's power to stand on its' own.
Remember, Caprica is coming. We're going to have two BSG shows soon. CW network is an amalgamation of the old WB and UPN. Chances of SG1 ending up there are ZERO. And it would be unfortunate, as even BSG on it's highest ratings night can't get enough for a major network. Remember Enterprise? Serenity? Fifty cancelled Fox shows? If SG1 is to survive, syndication will be the way to go. This post has been edited by FreshPez: Aug 21st 2006, 7:33 PM |

Em, the CW is a new network being formed from the merging of UPN of the WB.
The CW I'm sure there are a few networks who'd love to have SG-1. The question is whether or not they can afford it. Partial funding is cool, but what about most (if not all) of the funding responsibility falls on someone else? |

Wow, I end up sleeping when I get home and wake up to find this!
Like so many have said, it was bound to happen, too bad they had to do it in such a manner to put a damper on the 200th episode celebration. Maybe we'll get the movie that we were going to get back at the end of Season 6 when the production crew thought it might be cancelled. Sure I'm upset, it sucks, but maybe with just Atlantis they can focus all their attention and resources to making it better. |

But with no SG-1, am I gonna hang around on Friday nights till 10 o'clock just to catch BSG? Probably not. And the prospect of a BSG spin-off hasn't exactly thrilled me, either.
