i practiced tae kwon do for 3 years under a 2nd degree black belt and no doubt my legs got incredibly strong from the training. i stopped getting trained by a master after i received by blue belt, even though that's when the fun has just begun
what belt are you at currently? |

I'm a 1st degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, which is a "kissing cousin" of TKD. We actually compete (the school, including my kids, not me personally) in TKD tournaments.
I also coach and officiate for USSSA TKD tournaments. This post has been edited by danielfan: Apr 3rd 2006, 9:54 PM |

I studied for a very short time about 10 years ago then found out I was pregnant. I had just gotten to the sparring stage. After my daughter was born I just never found the time to go back. I've thought about it quite often since I was in the best shape of my life during that time. Just don't have any place close enough.

I'm more of a fan of Hapkido, though mixed martial arts is where my heart is. Unfortunately there is nowhere in my area that has any kind of mma.

Hey, Hapkido is still cool, TKD is also know as kick hyundai (pronounced high and die
But I believe mma these days, where everyone takes what works out of multiple styles and puts it together, is the coolest. Watching the various mma fights, you will see someone who is rigidly kung-fu, or jiu-jitsu, or whatever, they usually get eliminated fast. This guy has some great ideas: http://miletich-fight-minn.tripod.com/ as well do the Gracies: http://www.gracieacademy.com/ The Gracies have taken jiu-jitsu and added a lot of striking techniques too. |

Ya I watch those, there is more out of Japan (it has been popular in Japan before over here. The UFC has seen a great expansion in talent and style. Originally, the fighters were strict in their styles, you would see a Drunken kung-fu guy fight a kick boxer (there was a greatest knock-out on last night; the Drunken guy got laid out!). Now we see fighters who can strike, grapple, and submit, taking the best of multiple styles. If you had the current champs of UFC fight a lot of the stricter style champs from years ago, they would get annihilated. |

Is there any tae kwon-do guys in UFC? Not really, not any more. There are no strict styles there anymore. The strict style guys just get spanked. Guys who do really well are wrestlers + jiu jitsu + kick boxers/boxers. Without being good in all three disciplines, you get smoked. |

just returned from the USSSA Tae Kwon Do nationals in Kississmmee FL.
My 8 yr old daughter place 2nd in form and 1st in point sparring. I'm so proud of her. She did great. It was a great learning experience. I've been recommended to start training as a center referee for sparring. I centered for one forms division. I also cornered, kept time and served as tech assistant for both Olympic and point sparring. |
