Thus implying it had manuevering fins, and possibly a recon team on the ground painting the target?

He did have to circle and wait for the go order before he deployed the bomb iirc.

Of course I could be just making all that up... I should rewatch that episode, I always enjoy it.

I think they told him that he needed to reacquire the target. It could have very well been a smart bomb, it just seemed like a rediculously good shot to me.
