I was just watching the Stargate Movie, on SPike TV, and a couple things came to mind.
1- They said the gate went to some other galaxy (I cant remember the name) "on the other side of the known universe" UHHH. How is that possibble without a ZPM?!? I thought the gates were spread thoughout our galaxy by the ancients not all over the universe in different galaxies (with the exception of Atlantis). Any thoughts? or did they just make a mistake This post has been edited by madman23: Sep 12th 2005, 1:12 AM |

Yes, i have a thought, as said before there are many differences between the film, it i made by different people with different ideas. there are many inconsistencies, oneill son changing name, ra being a huge alien, abydonians not speaking english the list is quite long. its just an inconsistency, but they needed to make them to make the series work, well to there ideas anyway. Its better just to ignore stuff like this.

Any thoughts? or did they just make a mistake? Well, the movie was created before the series, so its possible that what was in the movie had been changed for the series. They go to Abydos because its the closest to our galaxy, hence "other side of the known universe" |

Well while im here, in the movie after the malp sends through the gate they use that machine to track them (the one that moves around on the clear glass screen as the traveler does) But why would they have had that if they didnt know what the gate was?? And how exactly could it have tracked their position?? There would be no way that i can think of of how they could track the probe as its going through space, in a wormhole, as its going at that speed. They also do this in the series...

No idea, lol, possibly to make it look plausible that it could be tracked

QUOTE(madman23 @ Sep 12th 2005, 12:04 AM) 1- They said the gate went to some other galaxy (I cant remember the name) "on the other side of the known universe" That would be the Kalium Galaxy. I noticed that the first time I saw the SG-1 Pilot, where Sam says Abydos must be the closest planet to Earth in the stargate network. I figure it's something that had to be changed to make the show more believable. The MALP has a radio transmitter/receiver, so with a powerful enough computer, they could compute the displacement (distance and direction) as it travels through the wormhole
That would be in contradiction with the "demolecularization" process explained in the movie and the show. At least, what they can do is set up a displacement equation within the wormhole to virtually track an object (as Sam did in Red Sky). |

As for you question, it is best to thinkof the series and movie as two separate entities. The series is only based on the movie, there a lot of inconsistancies, all of which have been discussed many times. |

well the movie was made before the show, so they didnt say anything about it being imposible to travel there, it was the show that changed it. so tectically speaking the show made the mastake.

Yah well, they've screwed up on things like that alot. Kind of like the "going through a blizzard BUTT NAKED, only way worse than that" thing, That is one other of the many things.

Actually they explained that, as well as a lot of pilot-series mistakes. The ice on the face and the bad gate experience was a result of inacurrate dialing computers. Once they better compensated for the stellar drift, and they were able to get a more exact location and the gate ride became much easier. All the shaking when they dialed the gate stopped becuase they has those clasic scifi things called inertial dampeners. |
