Just to repeat what everyone else has said, because I feel like it: I certainly have high hopes. I never watched Browder acts so I can't comment, but Lt Colonel Mitchell is perhaps the additional character the show has been looking for, and who knows, if written correctly, perhaps it'll make peope change their minds and stop the influx of Stargate going Downhill threads
Actually, I hope the team would have a problem accepting him. I hope we'll see some tension there. It opens great opportunities for development I would admit the show needs. |

I would say given the writers' tendency to have the characters on the show be suspicous of just about everybody its a foregone conclusion that there will be tension between Mitchell and the rest of the team.

I want him to have problems. I want him to make mistakes. I don't want him to be just like Jack. And yeah, BB looks great in leather pants ! |

Great addition. If he's well written for. (For once I'm in agreement with you Xay...
He was great as John Crichton. He definantly has the ability of portraying a very cool, slick, leader of SG1- I just don't think he's gonna be as amusing as Jack- coz then everyone will be in uproar; "He's a replacement for Jack O'Neill" (in whiny voices.) The writers will give him his own character and I'm sure they'll allow Ben to develop his own character in his own way- depending on how long the show lasts for. And I think that if the show has any "downfall" component involved in its ending, I think its unfair to blame someone like Ben Browder, who's just come along at the last moment. Its like blaming Robert Patrick for the downfall of The X Files. No, if anything it'll be due to either RDA leaving (in the way Mulder did) or the fact that the writing has become poor enough for even the hard-core fans to notice and give in to admitting how crap the show has become. However, I am an optimist and I think season 9 will be fantastic!!! (No doubts) |

I said he will be the downfall of the show. I don't really think he will be the "downfall" but I would have picked someone different. That said, I have not had a chance to see Ben Browder really act.
I miss Jack already! Too bad John Sheppard is on Stargate Atlantis - he would be great! Space butterfly This post has been edited by Space_butterfly: Mar 4th 2005, 12:22 AM |

I liked RDA the best of course, but since he hasn't been going offworld it seems that the rest of the team is mostly split up as well. I'm hoping that adding Ben will pull the team back together again. Can't say BB would have been my first choice. When Enterprise started I kept telling my son that Bakula was a poor choice and he has proven disastrous. Don't feel that way about BB, he could be good but I can think of others I'd have picked first.

I think BB will be a great addition to the show. It'll be odd to see him and Claudia Black again in season 9 (I assume). I wonder how their characters will interact.

We've seen them love each other on Farscape, I'd like to see the roles reversed to see some different acting come out of them. We know they can do love really well, it'd be cool to see them just not be able to stand each other! |

I hate Ben Browder. I hate him. He drives me insane. I'd rather see a sock puppet.
However, I am keeping an open mind and hoping he can impress me in Stargate. |

I think he is an interesting choice - fairly well known with sci-fi fans and with his addition we have the possibility of more team activities. I think it might work out just fine and be very interesting.
It does seem a bit like stunt casting because he well known for Farscape but that doesn't bother me if he does the job well. The addition that has me scratching my head and saying "HUH?" Is Beau Bridges. I think Browder stands a good chance on Stargate. I am at a complete loss of what to think of Bridges being added though. This all seems like it could be spectacular or fall so hard on its face we all have blunt force trauma. However, that's the same risk with any season. We'll see...I'm feeling hopeful. Now I have to go back to saying "Bridges? You're kidding, right?" Strange choice, that. |

I have to agree with an earlier statement. That his character is only as good as he is written. I really hope the writers do him good. hope they don't make his character some sort of and asshole. It would be nice to see another Jack like character in SG-1. They've been lacking.

I m not sure on how this guy will be i have never seen farscape. hopefully this will be a short time deal and that RDA comes back. I hope he does not try and belike RDA, he better make his own character and better not hit on sam or Jack will have to come back kick his @ss that would be dumb have another Commanding officer hitting on sam. thier is good chemistry between sam and jack and i don't think anyone can replace that. plus everyone had respect for jack. he did the right things even though they were wrong such as leaving that replicator fifth behind. but anyways i hope 9 works out and it is not the downfall of the show.

Hmmm.. I wonder if there'll be any banter between Daniel and Mitchell? Recently re-watched Enemy Mine - Daniel is saying there something in the spirit of "Don't feel ike breaking in another Colonel" to Jack - and there were all the run-ins between Jack and Daniel in the beginning til they got used to each other.. It'd be weird of Mitchell would let Daniel get away with his all his.. well... Daniel-ism!
Don't want Mitchell to be an O'Neill copy, but that would certainly spice things up. |

i hate that he is going to be the replacement for RDA i hated farscape and i hated his acting, maybe he will be ok in stargate but i can tell you that without RDA i doubt i will watch stargate as much, hell he is the main character.

However, I am keeping an open mind and hoping he can impress me in Stargate. A Lost Cause for you I'd say. I'm going to agree about the tesions within the group. Teal'c wil ignore him. Daniel may have the same problems he had with Jack, being looked at as a geek. Carter may be constanly humoured or criticized because she was somehow responsible of the F-302 but didn't think about adding a goddamn vulcan cannon to the freaking craft. (Mitchell could despise scientists as a whole). Now, if all that was true, one would wonder why he was chosen in the first place. Ancient gene? Well, maybe, but not enough as an explanation. I think they should play the tension card but not go too far. |
