I'd have to say he looks like an awesome addition to SG-1, seeing as Jack isn't on SG-1

I've seen Ben Browder in action. I loved watching Farscape, so I believe that he'll bring another smart ass to the team. Though I could be wrong. I just hope I'm not.
Though it will be interesting to see him with a P90 and not a pulse balster. |

I think he will be the balance the team needed this season but lost when RDA decided he didn't want to spend so much time away from home and therefore Jack had to leave the team with 3 members. I know Ben can do practically anything acting-wise. He has done everything from Shakespeare and Party of Five to narration of an Alan Dean Foster book. He is nothing if not a consummate actor..and a heck of a nice guy. Bet he and Michael will get on very well. Hope they write his character in a sympathetic way. Wouldn't enjoy having to hate his character should he come in as a bad or annoying guy. Hey, you never know what the writers have in store, do you ??

Not sure. Bad idea because he is basically the replacement for O'Neill as commander for SG1. Its a good idea because a better character is needed to command SG1, instead of Carter. I dont think he is a good actor, after seeing his performace on Farscape. Who knows, he may be better on Stargate.

QUOTE Not sure. Bad idea because he is basically the replacement for O'Neill as commander for SG1. Its a good idea because a better character is needed to command SG1, instead of Carter I agree, he could be a good new commander for SG1, but I hope that if he is the new leader, that he won't change the way the team works much. However, I don't know whether he would be the new leader, because although him and carter are the same rank, carter has more offworld experience whereas his character has only been a pilot for earths gliders (can't remember is it the X-302's? or is that prometheus) It will be good to have another addition to the team as it will bring in a different point of view, and i'm glad it's not another alien addition to the team as they need another military person. |

I'm not really sure because I never seen any shows that had him in it (not even Farscape). I just hope that he'll be a cool character, the type of action-man kind of guy.

He can be only as good as the writers allow him to be.
But Ben's a great actor, and I've got high hopes for his addition to the cast. |

He should be a good addition toi the cast. I thought he was a great actor in Farscape.
But as Xay as pointed out, the character can only be as good as he's written. I hope that they do justice to this character and develop it poroperly. It would not be good if he was written as another Jack O'Neill or John Crichton. |

It would not be good if he was written as another Jack O'Neill or John Crichton. Here is the thing..The team has been missing a real military guy and a kinda smartmouth. Ben does both of those really well. It would be crazy to hire someone who could slip into that mode as easily as putting on a broken-in pair of jeans and not utilize that ability. That doesn't mean he needs to be a carbon copy of John C or Jack O...but elements of both could be incorporated into a character who has some annoying flaws. A guy you might love to hate but in the end love |

Hopefully the writers have learned from their mistakes and will make Ben's character a unique individual. As for his additon to the show, I'm optimistic. |

ABSOLUTLY HATED FARSCAPE, worst sci fi show ever created except for lexx, so im a bit sceptical about having a farscape actor on the show, but i love stargate sg-1 so i hope he turns out a good character, i hope hes like an o'neill, good military mind but pretty dumb when carter starts speakin lolol, also hope the team will become to like him, we all remember when Makepiece joined the team in Shades Of Grey, no one really took to him, especially Teal'c.

QUOTE(ONeill135 @ Feb 26th 2005, 5:02 PM) i hope hes like an o'neill, good military mind but pretty dumb when carter starts speakin No, that's bad. The last thing he needs is to be labelled as a replacement O'Neill (like Jonas was labelled as a replacement Daniel). He really needs to be given his own character. QUOTE also hope the team will become to like him, we all remember when Makepiece joined the team in Shades Of Grey, no one really took to him, especially Teal'c. That's what was supposed to happen though. Makepeace was never meant to be a permenant replacement for O'Neill, only for that episode. That's why the characters never took to him. |

The mark of a good is actor is the ability to portray many diffrent character types. Just because he was Type X on Farscape doesn't mean he will be Type X on Stargate. Although on the other hand he had this wackiness on Farscape that I think would work on Stargate. A good example is the episode where he lost the ability to speak, or the multiple Chricton clones. I'm not saying we should have a Chrichton character on SG1; I'm merely saying some elements of Chrictons character would work for the Mitchell character if the writers decide to go that way.

He can be weird enough when needed.
However, Chrichton without Scorpius... is not Crichton. Since there's no Scorpius in Stargate, all is safe. |

I just want to point out though, that if they let him go off world in those leather pants he wears in Farscape, I may be a bit too preoccupied to worry about the quality of the writing this season. |

Yup, going to have to agree with Xay and Mith, Ben Browder will only be good as the material he's given by the writers. If, he's just turned into a Jack clone, that won't be any fun.
Loved BB as the emotionally tortured John Crichton. But, here's where BB has an advantage over RDA. I've noticed that actors who have studied Shakespeare, like BB did, are better at portraying a variety of emotions. Basically, (before people start throwing things at me), BB is a better actor than RDA. and that's not a slight on RDA because I LOVE him, but I can't see him playing Hamlet !!! I can see BB doing it though ! |
